Music Therapy Services

I offer music therapy services to K-12th grade students with mild to moderate needs. I would love to work with you and your child to design a plan tailored to best meet your child’s individual needs. If your child has a 504 or an IEP in place at school, I am happy to collaborate with school teachers & therapists to work on goals outside of the academic classroom setting. My  experience includes working with students who have learning disabilities, social/emotional/behavioral disabilities, autism, hearing & visual impairments,  developmental delays & more.

Courtney Goldfain, parent

“THRIVE” is the perfect word to describe my daughter, Jaden’s, experience under Tamara’s vocal teaching. After her first lesson, Jaden immediately saw the benefits of individual instruction customized to meet her goals as a musician. Tamara really cares about Jaden’s musical goals and builds each lesson around those aspirations, bringing out her best abilities while targeting areas of need. Tamara's vast expertise has also helped Jaden with auditions in musical theatre and, in just a short time, Jaden’s skills in music fundamentals, choral singing, auditioning and musical theatre have grown. It is a joy to see Jaden thrive in her passion and continue to gain  confidence with musicianship under Tamara’s guidance.

Rhonda Fortunato & Jamie

I can't say enough great things about Tamara Rowland! Having NO musical background myself, I was desperate to find someone to teach my daughter, Jamie, who became interested in music after being in a music video for a local band. Tamara saved me! She came in and met my daughter right where she was at. She didn't expect knowledge or perfection, and taught her basic voice and theory, which even helped in my daughter learn to play her guitar. Tamara is patient, kind, funny, and made learning so fun for my daughter. We love Tamara and THRive!!! She is the best!

Regine McClain, parent

I can't think of a person better equipped to teach music to people of any age and ability. Tamara is skilled, professional, emphatic, and well-trained and prepared to handle music students. She taught my 12-year-old son, Markus, for years, and during that time, I found him to grow not only musically, but also emotionally as he improved his singing and experienced the joys (and sometimes frustrations) of making music, which always involves body and soul, and is therefore so valuable in any person's life! I recommend Tamara wholeheartedly to anyone interested in playing music!

Markus McClain, Actor, NYC

Tamara is an unbelievable voice teacher and educator, who not only brings out the best in her students but truly cares about the individual and their specific needs. She is a one of a kind teacher, who possesses a unique set of skills to help students of all ages and backgrounds to tap their untapped potential. She is truly an incredible person and teacher. I urge anyone thinking about taking with her to do so!

Karen Voiles with Jessica, Veterinarian Student

I strongly recommend Tamara Rowland for your next music education experience. She is an awesome teacher! My oldest, Jessica, not only grew in music, she grew in life. She learned hard life lessons as a preteen as well as many important lessons as a musician!

Terri Cooley, accompanist

I accompanied Tamara Rowland's voice students on piano and I could tell that Tamara's students enjoyed having her as a teacher as they showed poise as they presented songs. From rehearsal to performance, the students showed gradual development of music skills as Tamara gently set appropriate challenges for each student. Tamara shows up for her students with humor, attention, and expert teaching skills. Her students obviously enjoy her and are comfortable with her.

In addition, Tamara communicated with clarity to me about the needs of her students, so that I understood how to play to enhance their singing. She is delightful to work with. Thrive Music Studio is well named because it reflects Tamara Rowland's energy, expertise and enthusiasm. The study of music itself has benefits that go beyond music, and these benefits last your whole life.

I took piano lessons from Mrs. Tamara when I was young and she was absolutely incredible! She's a fantastic musician and was always so patient with me. Even as a kid who hated practicing, I always looked forward to my lessons, because Mrs. Tamara was there!

Jena Yarley, Development Mgr, Theatre for a New Audience, NY

I took voice and piano lessons from Tamara as a child and teenager and know through experience that she is a wonderful musician, teacher, and human. She is patient, understanding, and encouraging while pushing you to strive to do your best.
